I already touched on this in the Introduce Yourself section, but I thought others but have more to add.
To repeat from my other post:
Near the end of the old forum days, the Islam rants turned me off. Even worse, people who reposted super long messages in their responses. If you want to fill up that much space on a computer screen, bite the bullet and get a Medium account (and stop taking up so much real estate here.) This isn’t an anti-Islam thing. It just seemed like the last year or two of the old forum had this aggressive Islamic steamroller infiltrating every thread and causing conflict.
Other turn offs were the snarky posters who tried to turn the forum into their personal chat space. Derailing posts for your ego is never a good look.
I also thought there were way too many threads about K-Pop. Did every single one need to be a new thread? Couldn’t we simply consolidate them into one mega K-Pop thread?
Anyone else have things to add (or maybe you want to tell me I’m an asshole? )
I still have the tile for the old forum on my device, but when you click it it just goes to a static page of what I imagine in the last page that was up. I even tried to use the Wayback Machine to see if I could screenshot some old posts I wanted to recover, but that is a bit frustrating and seems like an incomplete archive. The same day I was doing that, I found the new forum.
And the Memes thread 2 is still up. However, most of your posts have been disappeared on the couple of pages i looked at Memes Thread 2 | Page 41 | The Vigilant Citizen Forums . Some posts have also been taken over by whichever spammer has control of the site
Good looking out. Looks like a gambling site took over. See a lot of gambling info on there. I wish I had known it was up for grabs, I woulda tried to nab it in an act of preservation. A lot of good info gone to waste. Maybe you should try the Wayback Machine to see if you can recover anything. I’ll probably try it again, but it will take patience to work with the interface. I also wish we had email addresses for some of the homies that got left behind in the transition.
Unfortunately as soon as I saw the title, the first few things mentioned are exactly what came to mind, and I wasn’t on the old forum and neither had I seen this thread until now, and these things are definitely still happening.
I’m actually certain a recent case was deliberately derailing to mock the fact they had just been called out for derailing.
For balance I don’t think it should just be Islam (and it hasn’t been only Islam that’s just been the most persistent example), but everyone’s religion is important to them, you can stick it all in one thread and post up as much as you want in there, it isn’t necessary to remind us in every thread and derail it.
But at least the K-pop issue appears to be resolved.
@OldWhiteMan I agree with you, although I have never been to the old forum. The current forum is one big one, do whatever you want, without any control.
I don’t know if there was a moderator on the old forum, but his presence is mandatory on every decent forum.
A knowledgeable moderator would be really useful here.
The chaos that reigns here is truly disturbing and a bit irritating.
You wrote that the previous forums were previously deleted. Maybe the site administrator doesn’t care about order because in the end this forum will be destroyed like the previous one.
On the other hand, I appreciate what we have, as they say, it could be worse
