Singer replacement

I found a very common practice of famous people, specially in the music industry, being replaced. Such as Ariana Grande, Shakira, Avril Lavigne, Luis Miguel, Rihanna, Adele.

What makes you say so? Any evidence?

Did you take a look at the singers, how different are, even their voices sound different?

Yes, but that could be due to make-up, hair, plastic surgery, age, autotune…

Why would they be replaced in the first place? And with who?

You didn’t mention the oldest and probably most famous one with the most lore surrounding it, Paul McCartney.

Avril Lavigne is another very famous one, it’s gotten more mainstream in recent years and she was asked about it a few times.

I can’t say I buy it at all, McCartney for example was a generational talent, they’re just going to find someone who looks like him, sounds like him, which is one thing, he was also charismatic and good in interviews, most normal people would not be that naturally engaging in front of cameras, they also did acting in films (not that he was a tremendous dramatic actor or anything they just played themselves in those films, but he came across well in a film, again most civilians just wouldn’t)

And then on top of all that, he has to be able to play bass, piano, and sing incredibly well in the same style of McCartney, as well as write dozens of hit songs (the replacement I believe happened in 1966, after Revolver but before their biggest albums came out which he wrote a large chunk of). Unless the theory just states they never actually wrote their own songs, and then we’re just moving so far from reality.

There’s similarly nothing convincing about Avril Lavignes theory either. I’m open to being convinced otherwise but I suspect I’ve probably already been through all the available ā€œevidenceā€.

I’m not saying I believe McCartney was definitely replaced but I can’t help wondering why he hasn’t churned out many notable songs like he used to do in the 60’s / 70’s ?

Well that’s pretty common, I would say Lennon and Harrison had a similar amount of hits after. Harrison wrote less in The Beatles and only really had one big song as a solo, and Lennon had like a handful, which tracks with McCartney.

But outside of The Beatles it’s very common for song writers to have a purple patch of creativity, normally early in their career. One of my favourite bands is Smashing Pumpkins, which is Billy Corgan the lead singer and practically only song writer, who hit a creative peak in the space of like 2-3 years, their biggest album Mellon Collie he started writing only a year or so after their previous genius album Siamese Dream (which he wrote all the musical parts for except drums), and then for Mellon Collie they ended up doing a double album of 28 songs because Billy just had too many ideas and great songs pouring out of him. And it wasn’t just filler, each song had a purpose, they managed to out do the previous album which was extremely critically acclaimed in its own right l

But that was about the end of it, their remaining albums of that era up to their split in 2000 were nowhere near those 2 albums quality, he had another band briefly which was a disaster, then the albums he’s made since reforming the Pumpkins have been very poor from what I’ve heard.

So yeah if McCartneys period of extreme creativity was more like 7 years from 63 to 70, that’s actually longer than most I would say. The most creative and brilliant albums of that time were after the car accident/apparent death in 1966, unless people are claiming the new Paul was actually a better song writer than the previous one haha.

I think I read somewhere not so long ago that McCartney wasn’t happy that their songs were credited ā€˜Lennon-McCartney’, perhaps he wanted Lennons name dropped, I dunno.

In fact i’ve never much liked McCartney, I can’t put my finger on why not, but he seemed to show his true miserly colours a few years ago when a session musician from his early days tried to sell an old guitar and Mac went ballistic, saying he had no right to sell it, blah blah.

PS- I no longer watch Dragons Den because I can’t stand the Dragons, because even though they’re rolling in money they usually refuse to help the entrepreneurs..There’s an old saying- ā€œIt’s always hard to write a cheque, especially if you’re a millionnaireā€..
