Symbolism in Films/Music Videos/Other

This is “Sweet but Psycho” a song by Ava Max, who I hadn’t heard of before, I’ve heard this song in the gym and just out and about pretty regularly, I would have guessed it was fairly new but it’s actually 7 years old:

There’s probably a lot going on in this video, but I was originally interested by the duality of the title/chorus line itself, and how it may relate to a dissociated personality theme that we often see on this site, for example with Sabrina Carpenter’s videos. Looking in to this artist/song, it’s pretty much what I expected.

The singer has a unique haircut, one side is cut short, the other is long, seeing some comments this really appeals to her fans, on top of it she often has pictures like this:

So the “Sweet but Psycho” theme isn’t just applying to this one song, and it doesn’t appear to be about some other character or a person she knows of, but it’s her and her entire persona (at least at this period of her breaking out as a singer, by the way this was her first major single and appears to be her biggest song in a now declining career, just from briefly looking at her youtube views)

As mentioned there’s probably a lot going on in this video, like the chandelier in the opening shot, I’m mainly interested in the split personality aspect and just pointing out highly obvious symbology.

In the opening Chorus which has the line “at night she’s screaming, I’m out out out (of) my mind”, twice in a row during that line it has a shot of Ava Max being “tripled”, just as the word “mind” is said:

Vigilant Citizen did an analysis of Sabrina Carpenter’s “In My Bed” (which is how I noticed the above) and it even shows the same in the thumbnail, it’s about a year after Sweet but Psycho:

It also shows her in 3’s, with many aspects throughout that video of showing the split personalities. And considering during the Ava Max video it happens specifically on the line “I’m out of my mind”, twice, it’s not just artistic.

Throughout the video she also has this “running mascara”, which is cartoonishly beyond any running mascara you could imagine:

Clearly an image of Black Goo, Billie Eilish used a more aggressive form of this in a video only about 4-5 months after this one:

I mean there’s a ton of examples going back way further than this, there’s a Black Goo thread on this forum as well.
One of these videos wouldn’t be complete without one eye symbols, the first at 0:40:

It’s fairly subtle, during a flick of her hair, note that this is on her left side (from her point of view) and then at 1:14 she does the other side, possibly indicating that despite her fragmented mind, both sides are devoted to the one eye symbolism:

And this one’s a lot more deliberate, even if somewhat brief, the shot starts with her holding her eye? And shaking her head and continuing to hold it:

I would not call this a natural behaviour, she’s playing the part of being in distress or sad, and just holding one eye like that? It’s also delivered on the word “crazy”

But we’ve had 2 “characters in the video so far, the one on the staircase, black goo on the couch, and of course we have a third, and this one appears to be in some kind of PVC bondage outfit, this is the one that’s used to invite her love interest over I suppose, I mean what a ridiculous outfit for having dinner:

There’s also a continuous use of her drinking what looks like red wine in some shots, but here it doesn’t in my opinion, that’s not quite red wine and not quite rose:

She also stabs this turkey/chicken, and the next shot is the guy smiling and eating, in a later shot she’s stabbing a picture of him in the middle of his face, cannibalism?

Interestingly when she pours the red liquid in to a glass it turns green, as she says the line about drinking a “potion”, but apart from obviously just being a poisoning/drugging, I’m not sure exactly what this could mean in a bigger picture with regards from turning Red to Green:

At 2:12 we see a subtle introduction of the masonic checkerboard floor tiles (bottom left, more visible in the moving video itself) that this dinner scene has been playing out on, at this part of the video she is still the bondage/PVC character with red hair but now in a wedding dress or other white dresses:

Interesting one eye at 2:42 when the male escapes to a closet from being murdered, this is during the bridge and basically the thematic climax of this video:

And this is the reveal at 2:54 shortly after:

Another already deceased male falls from the closet on to those masonic checkerboard tiles, and this is where I just don’t feel it can be a mere artistic coincidence. It’s related to murder, rituals, and it’s the reveal of the checkerboard (I believe it’s the “reveal”, the earlier one’s I pointed out above were too difficult to see when just casually watching the video)

That’s all I really have, the story itself is just spelled out in the video, would love to hear if anyone spotted things I didn’t see or didn’t mention.

I don’t think I have any other things in mind that you didn’t mention. Great analysis!

Thank you!

Since creating this thread Ava Max consistently now shows as recommended on youtube, but hopefully it will stop as I’ve stopped clicking on them and frankly her music isn’t that good, in interviews she seems like a cool person though, it’s sad if she actually is a mind controlled industry slave.

Anyway she’s kinda infamous for many of her songs openly ripping off other songs:

I don’t know why but I actually find this kinda funny  they’re just so shameless about it.

Anyway back on topic, I find it interesting that in her music she kinda has no identity, she just takes themes of songs from others, and they’re a vast array of artists with no real relation to each other, and she tweaks them and makes them more her own, but what is “her own” when she kinda has no unique theme?

So I think it represents how fragmented her mind may be, her songs are just kinda all over the place, she’s doing a cover of Aquas Barbie Girl? Then she’s taking note for note a Bonnie Tyler song, then ATC, what is going on?

I mentioned earlier that her views on youtube are seriously declining compared to Sweet but Psycho and some other hits from 5-7 years ago, so I am guessing her career is kinda dead. Her last music videos was basically softcore pornography, well I guess it’s meant to be “fun” in a bikini in summer etc but it’s very revealing of her body, maybe it’s a last ditch effort of getting attention. Even that song is weird, “Wet Hot American Girl” and its like oddly patriotic, I thought it was sarcastic at first, but maybe not, even her own fans in the comments said how it’s the weirdest career turn.

Well unless she does something else of note I think I’ve exhausted any interest I could have in this singer, but I hope to break down more music videos soon.

I’m not gonna do a full breakdown of this video, because there’s so much going on, and also it’s an obnoxiously annoying song, but I just discovered this:

The reason this stood out to me, is because earlier this year I found out this:

The ancient god known as “Nana” refers to Nanna (or Nana in some transliterations), a deity from Mesopotamian mythology, particularly in Sumerian and Akkadian traditions. Nanna, also known as Sin in Akkadian, was the god of the moon, associated with wisdom, time, and fertility. He was one of the most important deities in the Sumerian pantheon, worshipped primarily in the city of Ur, where his great temple, the Ziggurat of Ur, was a major religious center.

Is it a reach? Is it not just a typical thing for people to sing since pop music started? Maybe, but when I see that song title from MCR, it feels very deliberate. And 3 Na Na’s, followed by 9 or 3x3, I’m not a big numerology guy, but I know they like 3’s and stuff.

The video builds up to this part at, 3:33

Followed by a shot of a child of course, and these bad guys for some reason are trying to abduct this girl, I’m not sure exactly why from watching the video, but oddly they’re successful in doing so, and they just kill the band’s characters? What the hell kinda ending is that to an upbeat song?

One of the band members has “Dead Pegasus” as a logo on his chest, Pegasus in Occult meanings is a sign of hope and prosperity, I guess the Dead part means that hope is dead.

There’s a lot of symbols and stuff going on throughout this video, probably way beyond my understanding. There’s also a tarantula symbol shown prominently, not sure what that means.

But back to the girl, because I’m interested as there’s no reason given for their interest in her, this is simply the description:

Just coveted? Why? Another description:

She is a motorbaby, meaning “a kid on the run,” and that is sometimes used as a name.

This is often a theme with kids in films and TV, they are orphans, like The Little Rascals (now that’s a rabbit hole to go down).

OK I’ve just found this:

The music video takes place in the year 2019 in Battery City, a post-apocalyptic town run by the megacorporation Better Living Industries. In the video, the Killjoys are protecting a young girl named Missile Kid (played by Grace Jeanette) from Korse (played by Morrison) and his band of “Draculoids”.

Draculoids?! So the guys who want the girl, for no specified reason, are like vampires? I had to look that up, and it turns out the term was invented for this comic book the video is based on:

A Draculoid is a low-level employee of Better Living Industries (BL/Ind) tasked with eliminating Killjoys and maintaining order in Battery City and the surrounding Zones. They are often referred to as “Dracs” by Killjoys and are known for their white suits, black gloves, and Dracula-style masks. The transformation into a Draculoid is achieved through a process called Draculoidization, which involves placing the mask on an individual, resulting in the removal of their soul, personality, and memories, leaving behind an empty, emotionless shell under the control of BL/Ind leadership, such as Korse.

Note that the one holding the child at the end, is dressed in the standard black and white Draculoid outfit:

Which is this guy:

This scene is at 3:05:

So the vampiric Draculoid, is just scaring this child and screaming at her, for what purpose? Well we can only guess really.

So in writing this post I went further down the rabbit hole than I expected, and this comic book that the video is based on, there seems to be such a universe and lore behind it, yet despite all these back stories and characters, I can’t find any reason they’re particularly interested in the child. Here’s the description of what these guys do:

A Draculoid is a low-level employee of Better Living Industries (BL/Ind) tasked with eliminating Killjoys and maintaining order in Battery City and the surrounding Zones. They are often referred to as “Dracs” by Killjoys. Draculoids are typically depicted wearing white suits, black gloves, and Dracula-style masks, though the masks vary in design across different media. They are equipped with white ray guns and are known to patrol the Zones in search of Killjoys to eliminate, often fulfilling a daily quota.

Edit: Just read back and realised I copied the same bit twice, which looks real stupid but I think I got distracted from writing my post for like 20mins and then came back and forgot that I had just included it.

I can’t see why they would take a child, and nobody seems to wonder about that. I know this is not very well thought out, it doesn’t seem like a great story at all, but still.

I saw this tweet, the focus being on the fire breaking out in the background, but I found even more odd the pedo swirl symbols that are all over the set:

Someone points out this singers strange past when it comes to pedoshit:

I might go further down that rabbit hole with the singer, but looking up Xuxa, it brings up a jewellery brand, which appears to not be related to the singer at all, but the amount of symbolism on their site is beyond strange, I firstly noticed all the one eye symbolism from google image search:

So I go to the site:

At first I couldn’t see all the one eyed stuff from the models in google image search, but you have to hover the cursor over the item and it changes to a second picture, there were several one eyed with an object or hand blocking one eye, or winking, and then a few more where the other eye is cropped out (which on it’s own I wouldn’t count as a big deal, because the focus was on earrings, but in this context it just adds to it)

They were nearly all from the one white model above, and then there’s just one from this other model, she does also have some cropped out one eyed symbols as well:

There was also this from their instagram, I don’t have instagram so I couldn’t check through it, but saw this on google image search:

Actually, I’m a bit confused now, because this appears to be from another jewellery brand called “Xuxa Xuxa Jewellery”, not just Xuxa:

And I managed to use a site that you can see instagram pictures, and I went back, and is this the Brazilian singer? I’m not sure
The singer:

From Xuxa Xuxa jewellery’s instagram this woman appears many times:

Well back to just “Xuxa Jewellery”, here’s the tab icon for the website:

image

And then you have the jewellery itself, literally about 20% of it is based on this “evil eye” theme:

And on their About page:

I can’t find anything anywhere about who created this brand, no real background info given, just someone called “Jodie K” as it says on the Wholesale page.

OK I found their actual instagram:

Not much on there really, just this slight one eye:

There’s also a few pictures of female models who to me look quite manly, but I’m not certain so I won’t post them, here’s some manly looking hands though:
