Yes, Jesus said “I am the way”, but many people don’t believe him and choose other paths which lead nowhere..

So if we just tell him we like him “so much” he will be our “chum” or do we have to prove we like him and if so how?

People can prove they like Jesus simply by becoming Christians..
TPTB hate Christianity and promote the idea that there are many other paths to God, but in fact all those “paths” lead only up shit creek..

How does someone simply become a Christian and then, after becoming a Christian, what needs to be done to prove they are genuine Christians?

TPTB CREATED “Christianity” to keep people AWAY from God and His Christ, just as they’ve done with every religion before and after.
It’s good to quote Christ, when He said He is the ONLY Way home, to our heavenly Father and God.
But anyone with eyes and ears ought to be able to see that there are THOUSANDS of different denominations that call themselves “Christian”, all of which are claiming they are the doing it right and all the rest have it wrong.
Do people ever THINK that they are ALL wrong? One would think the silly costumes the priests and pastors wear and the money that they collect, and the giant buildings that people pay for to go pretend for an hour a week to care about Christ would be enough for anyone to see it’s a scam.
It will NEVER be enough to call yourself by ANY group name or designation, whether it be “Christian” or “Muslim” or “Jew”, “Buddhist”, etc. Nor is it enough to want to be Christ’s “chum”.
IF someone genuinely loves Christ, they will FOLLOW HIS EXAMPLE OF DISCIPLINE AND SELF-SACRIFICE. And, in doing so, they will find Christ, because THAT is the strait/straight and narrow way that leads to LIFE that very few ever find.
Striving for anything short of perfection is simply an unworthy standard (Matt. 5:48). The road to hell-fire is paved with seemingly good intentions.

Yes but the wrong ones are easy to spot because their wackadoodle beliefs give them away just as Jesus said- “By their fruits you shall know them”..
(Don’t get me started on Jehovah’s Witnesses, Mormons, Catholics etc etc etc..

Only God knows if we’re proper Christians, so all we can do is keep our fingers crossed and hope we make the grade..

Yes, they are easy to spot because ALL of them are wrong. How many “Christians” actually follow Christ’s TRUE Teachings of self-sacrifice and self-discipline? How many know what it actually means to be “born again”?
It should be self-evident from even a cursory inspection of Scripture, that what is taught in the Babylonian mystery religion that calls itself “Christianity” has absolutely nothing to do with what Christ actually teaches.
It shouldn’t be too difficult for any awakened soul to see from the above list how the teachings of “Christianity” are in direct opposition to Christ’s true teachings.

So you don’t know if you’re a “proper” Christian and you’re just crossing your fingers and hoping for the best. No faith whatsoever. Seems from where i’m sitting that satan has messed with your head or maybe it’s the part of the spectrum you are in with your aspergers and satan has taken that to his advantage. Which kinda explains why he has you perverting Bible passages into the image of your own heart.
Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for.

I don’t expect you to take this in, but here goes anyway.
If you want to be a real Christian read Matthew 5,6,7 and put it into practice. But the first and most important thing is to recognise your poverty before God,
“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven”.
We are all beggars, or in your words, “scroungers” before God. Nothing we do will ever change that. Nothing we do will ever earn us God’s grace or mercy. Grace being the gift of God that we don’t deserve and mercy is the withholding of what we do deserve. But blessed be the Lord that he makes us neither beg nor “scrounge”.
And btw, when someone recognises their poverty of spirit they go on to mourn and be comforted, to be meek and then they hunger and thirst for righteousness, become merciful themselves, and pure in heart etc. Those verses aren’t set out willy nilly. They are ordered deliberately.

The problem is that many people blindly follow wackadoodle denominations and cults because they’re lazy and happy to let them do their thinking for them, forgetting that Jesus is the only pastor / minister / clergyman / priest they need..

Many people think just because the clergy have been through Theology College, they must know more about the subject than ordinary folk. Not so, because although there are some good clergy around, the majority are fools, and a fool with a diploma is still just a fool..
“When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus” (Acts 4:13)
“I love the law of God because its made me wiser than all my teachers” (Psalm 119:97-100)
Paul said- “I may not be a trained speaker but I do have knowledge” (2 Cor 11:6)
Jesus said:- “I thank you Father for hiding these things from the wise and learned, and for revealing them to little children”(Matt 11:25-27)

Yup, I’m not arrogant enough or foolish enough to assume I’m saved and neither was Paul..:)-
Paul said- “I care very little if I am judged by you or by any human court; indeed, I do not even judge myself. My conscience is clear, but that does not make me innocent. It is the Lord who judges me. Therefore judge nothing before the appointed time” (1 Cor 4:3)
Many christians think they’re automatically saved and as a result they drop their guard against satan, tut-tut..
Again you post a Bible verse and mangle its meaning. Please give some thought to verses before you post them. Here’s what 2 Peter says,

In the end Ignorance is bound hand and foot and thrown out of the Celestial city, just like the fella in the Gospel who turned up without wedding clothes, only with Ignorance, it’s a lack of certificate.
