Dexter has some good points when it explores good, evil, and retribution.
But at what point does a fascination with murder and true crime become unhealthy? And do we sympathize too much with killers nowadays?

I think it’s telling that we as a society have become so desensitized to murder and crime. Between fictitious content of thrillers/crime and then non-fiction documentaries and true-crime shows/podcasts, I think it’s safe to say that nothing really shocks people anymore.
As to your point of asking if we sympathize with killers too much nowadays, I would agree. How many movies depict a sad backstory of a killer, how many true crime shows depict the tragic upbringing of the killer? We’ve been conditioned to feel bad for the plain, evil actions of demented people who yes probably had it bad growing up, but society should never be okay with that excuse for murder.
We really have been desensitized. And I also think these TV shows and movies encourage blood lust. The worst, unfortunately, are video games. Have you seen how graphic some of the violence has gotten. It must affect children. It cheapens life in their eyes.
I thought about this recently too as I noticed how often my husband and I were choosing true crime shows or podcasts for entertainment. We are to guard our hearts, which means we must guard our eyes and ears. I was convicted in wanting to watch these tragedies for the sake of entertainment.
As far as sympathizing with murderers — Luigi Mangione is a good example. I’ve seen and heard remarks suggesting that he was justified (maybe not entirely, but somewhat) in his actions.
The amount of death and murder we are all exposed to is concerning.
We have been extremely desensitized
tptb want Ya to sympathize that is exactly why they humanize the villain right away. they make sure that some can identify with the emotions and situations that the villain experiences.
they make sure to portray that some in that situation are more or less justified for taking the actions they took
it’s not for the older generations tptb are using the agenda,it’s to capture the Children and they are unfortunately
I’ve noticed these younger Peoples are lacking in so much empathy and compassion. they are willing to watch the most heinous of things and some even laugh. they See so much now a days
as parents Our job of protecting and shielding them from Seeing these evils is ever harder, if they go to school or not, there’s their friends and just Peoples in society in general
there’s also a immense increase in violent crimes or is it that way cause the internet and social media idk
it’s Soul breaking to See/watch it happen
