I think Trump might have bitten off too much this time with Iran because he’s gambling everything on the people taking over the country and the Iran military laying down their arms.
If they don’t he’ll have to put boots on the ground and find himself embroiled in a Nam-like conflict that’ll cost thousands of US lives.
If I was him I’d be satisfied with bumping off the top regime bosses like he’s done, and then sit back to see what happens before deciding on his next move.

I endorse the theory that this has been true since 1979 at least, when the lranian double agents helped H.W. scuttle Carter’s reelection bid by keeping the American hostages locked up until after Carter had lost the election. Possibly a lot longer.

BOMBER SQUADRON LEADER- “Today we’re going to hit the enemy hard”

BSL- “No, we’re going to bomb schools, hospitals, baby milk factories and basketball parks”
